The association

One association. A wider view.

MUSIMA starts with a clear identity and an open ambition: to begin from the African diaspora and what it builds, and to contribute to an ecosystem where people, projects, ideas, resources and opportunities can meet.

Mission

Why MUSIMA exists

Because more often than not, what could move a person, a project or an initiative forward already exists — somewhere else, in another network, in another conversation.

MUSIMA creates the spaces and the occasions for those realities to meet, travel and give rise to new possibilities.

Talks, gatherings, writing, collaborations and projects are tools. The purpose is wider: to encourage the connections that produce value and get things built.

Where it comes from

From Inspire to MUSIMA

Before MUSIMA there was Inspire BCN. We ran gatherings because we wanted to bring people together, share experience and see what those connections could produce.

Over time one thing became clear: a good gathering can produce a great deal, but without continuity part of that value disappears once the event is over.

MUSIMA comes out of that experience, and out of a bigger ambition: to move from running gatherings to building, step by step, a structure, a community of relationships and an ecosystem able to carry on what gets started.

Our compass

Value · Connect · Build

  1. Value

Make visible what exists, and recognise the worth of people, experience, ideas, projects and initiatives.

  2. Connect

Bring together people and organisations who can learn, contribute, collaborate or open up new possibilities for others.

  3. Build

Move from connection to action when there is an opportunity: a collaboration, a project, an initiative, something passed on, a new possibility.

Who it is for

A starting point, not a boundary

  • People from the African diaspora
  • People starting a business or carrying a project
  • Professionals and experts
  • Students and anyone in the middle of learning
  • Associations and initiatives
  • Companies and organisations
  • Institutions, universities and other players in the area
  • Anyone who wants to discover, learn, contribute or collaborate

The African diaspora is an essential part of MUSIMA’s identity. But MUSIMA is not a space reserved for one community. Its purpose is to create connections that benefit and enrich a wider ecosystem.

Territory

We start in Barcelona

An anchor point, not a limit.

Barcelona and Catalonia are our starting point. This is where we are building our first relationships, collaborations and activities.

From there, the ambition is to grow the dynamic step by step and connect MUSIMA with other territories and other ecosystems.

What sets us apart

We don’t only bring people together. We make it possible for something to come of it.

MUSIMA does not want to be simply an event organiser, a professional network, an opportunities platform, or an association devoted to a single subject.

What sets it apart is the combination of three movements: giving value to what exists, connecting what can meet, and encouraging the building of new possibilities.

That is why a talk, a conversation, a piece of writing or a collaboration is never an end in itself. They are starting points.

A good connection can open up a possibility. And a possibility can become something that gets built.

How we speak

Human, clear and ambitious

  • Human
  • Accessible
  • Positive
  • Curious
  • Contemporary
  • Open
  • Ambitious
  • Concrete

MUSIMA does not present an idealised version of reality. It talks about real people, real projects and real experience: what works, what costs, what is learnt and what is still to be built.

We want to speak with ambition but without overstatement; with pride but without turning it into a shop window; with openness but without losing our identity.

Take part

What can you bring?

An idea. An experience. A skill. A contact. A resource. A project. Or simply the wish to meet other people and find new possibilities. MUSIMA is built with the people who take part.
